During many of our initial consultations with these patients, we’re often asked about the differences between Kybella® and chin liposuction. 1. Kybella® Injections Are Non-Surgical
Kybella® is an injectable solution that can melt away chin fat and reduce the appearance of a double chin within weeks. Because of its gentle nature and non-surgical approach, Kybella® treatments are safe for almost anyone with a double chin. Our technicians use numbing cream to prepare the treatment area, so patients are comfortable the entire time.
Chin liposuction is a surgical procedure and requires a surgical facility, incisions, and anesthesia. During liposuction, a plastic surgeon will create tiny incisions in 2-3 areas of the patient’s chin which he will use to insert a cannula, a flexible plastic tube that is used to remove fat from under the chin. He will then gently move the cannula back and forth to remove the desired amount of fat and will then close the incisions with small sutures. Chin liposuction requires a recovery period, and patients will experience swelling and bruising as a result.
2. Kybella® Injections Require No Downtime
A huge benefit of Kybella® treatments over chin liposuction is that they require no downtime. In fact, each treatment takes about 15 or 20 minutes and can be completed over a lunch break, allowing you to get back to work the same day.
Because chin liposuction is surgical and invasive in nature, it will require anesthesia. When anesthesia is administered, restrictions are put in place for the safety of the patient; therefore, you will be required to have substantial downtime after chin liposuction.
3. Kybella® Results Occur Over Time
Kybella® results are not immediate. Ocala patients usually see results within 4 to 6 weeks after their initial treatment. This is due to the fact that your body will need time to break down and eliminate the fat cells in your chin. However, we find that most of our patients are okay to wait.
